Not just a Storm in a Teacup, Monthly prize winner for January 2015

With the 2014 overall monthly award winner shortly to be announced, we have already started our 2015 campaign by presenting our monthly award for January 2015 to The Stormy Teacup on Foxes Bow, which was chosen for transforming what was a previously neglected alleyway into a highly attractive quirky artisan tea shop, which has grown increasingly popular since it first opened.

For many months, we have considered The Stormy Teacup as an ideal candidate for one of our awards, but in order to spread it around the city, we had to wait until 2015 as we had already given an award to a business in Foxes Bow in 2014, which shows just how attractive that part of town has become. That is down in no small part to this beautiful little tea shop which is full of character both inside and out, and as well as looking great, it very much upholds the Tidy Towns ethos of recycling and re-using by selling second hand books and crafts. Ruth also has plans to further develop the outside area, by adding an awning and lights which will enhance even more an already beautifully maintained alleyway. We are delighted to present our first award of 2015 to a home grown Limerick business, with community and culture as part of its ethos.

The Stormy Teacup is well worth a visit, not just for the huge selection of artisan teas, but for its many events in the evenings such as weekly cinema nights, book club meetings and DJ sessions. Further details can be found on their website www.thestormyteacup.com or via their Facebook page.

The Stormy Teacup is the first Limerick Tidy Towns monthly award winners for 2015, and kick starts our year as we try to encourage other businesses to make the effort to be acknowledged by simply taking pride in their premises and adding to the overall image of Limerick city. An overall winner will also be chosen at the end of the year and previous winners from 2014 are also eligible to win again in 2015 simply by keeping up the good work!

Limerick Tidy Towns would also like to say a special thank you to the I Love Limerick team who have very kindly offered their photography services for presentations of the 2015 Awards, which is a great boost to our efforts to publicise the awards.
